Reporting Swine Flu
The Health Protection Agency has asked us to report weekly on any schools that are experiencing sickness absence levels greater than 20% of all pupils. It would also be useful to know the cause of absence if this is possible. This information will enable the Swindon PCT to have a good overview of how the Flu Pandemic is developing within the area.
If your school hits the 20% absence trigger, please contact the Communication and Projects Team on 01793 463158.
Advice and information can also be found on the NHS website at http://www.nhs.uk/AlertsEmergencies/Pages/Pandemicflualert.aspx or the National Flu Pandemic website at https://www.pandemicflu.direct.gov.uk/

It is essential that adults or children with flu-like symptoms stay away from school until they are free of the symptoms. Some groups are particularly vulnerable to any illness, including Swine 'Flu. This can include some children and young people with particular health conditions, including some complex disabilities such as cerebral palsy which can make it difficult for them to fight off viruses. Please see the specialist advice contained within the document below for Special Schools, alongside the guidance for Mainstream schools.
Special Schools should seek Health Protection Agency advice (01380 814000) when they have Swine 'Flu cases so that the HPA can advise what measures to take, which may mean a temporary closure in some cases to reduce the risk to vulnerable children:
