PFI is a way of funding major capital investments, without immediate recourse to the public purse. The schools were designed and built by John Laing Ltd and the buildings are currently owned and managed by Education Support (Swindon) Ltd otherwise referred to as ESSL.  

The contract with Swindon Borough Council is for a 25 year period during which time the buildings are leased by Swindon Borough. At the end of the 25 year period ownership of the buildings reverts to Swindon Borough Council.

The Swindon Schools PFI Team form part of the Planning and Development Team that sits within the Children's Services Directorate. The team are based at Sanford House and are responsible for ensuring that the contractor provides the services detailed in the contract.
